"This is one of the important facets in the further development of the North-South connection and the security of the Grote Baan for vulnerable road users. The bridge is part of the F74 bicycle highway that connects Hamont-Achel directly with Hasselt. The bridge was moved from Hamont Achel to the wharf near the Peersdijk in two different parts. It took four hours to move the colossus a few kilometers away at a snail's pace. Each part of the bridge is therefore 6.65 meters wide, 45 meters long and weighs 70 tons. The two parts will be welded together in the coming weeks and prepared to be mounted on the pylons that have to support the colossus. Those who want to see the bridge before it has been placed can take a look at the wharf on 21 September. The bridge will be placed in the night of Saturday 15 to Sunday 16 October. During the works, the Grote Baan will be closed to all traffic in both directions."
